on Cinematography
and a Few Films

Good Books (You can buy these books at many bookstores.  If you chose to buy by clicking on the links below, you will be sent to Amazon.com and your purchase will earn me a tiny commission.)
Set Lighting Technician's Handbook, 2nd Edition, by Harry C. Box, Focal Press.  $31.96. Paperback.

American Cinematographer Film Manual, 7th edition, about $29.95.(Click on this link to the ASC store, then click on "ASC Books" in the right column.) The "Bible" of  filmmaking.  Note: The ASC also publishes an American Cinematographer Video Manual,  which can be found at the same site.  I have never seen it, and cannot vouch for its usefulness.  I would expect it to be fairly informative in all senses of "fairly."

Contemporary Cinematographers on Their Art, by Pauline Rogers, $17.95. Paperback.

More Contemporary Cinematographers on Their Art, by Pauline Rogers, $17.95. Paperback.  For a sample chapter, see the Roger Deakins article listed below.

Good Articles:

Contemporary Cinematographers on Their Art; Roger Deakins - a long fascinating interview by Pauline Rogers which spans Deakin's lengthy career.  A wonderful film-life story.  This is one chapter from Pauline Rogers' second book on Cinematographers (see above.) (Posted on Reelmind.com)
